The Vikings made a roster move on Monday, signing G Tyler Holmes to take the vacant roster spot created when the team waived WR Kris Adams last Friday. • Hightlights From Peterson’s Knee Rehab Update

    Mike Wobschall
    14 May 2012 | 7:23 am
Last week’s news cycle was dominated by Vikings stadium discussion, and rightfully so given the importance of that issue and the extremely positive result that ultimately transpired. Somewhat lost in that discussion, though, was the update Vikings RB Adrian Peterson and Head Athletic Trainer Eric Sugarman provided late in the week. And while Sugarman stressed that the team would be cautious in bringing Peterson back so as to not compromise his health in order to get him back on the field in fast order, the overall tone of the update was positive. We covered the update from top to bottom…
  • Stadium Bill Passes Both House and Senate, Awaiting Signature Of Gov. Dayton

    10 May 2012 | 1:53 pm
After years upon years of battling and waiting, the dream that so many within the Vikings organization, its fan base and the State of Minnesota shared has come true. The Vikings stadium bill has officially passed both the House and the Senate, and now is awaiting the signature of Governor Mark Dayton. The Senate passed the legislation early Thursday afternoon by a 36-30 margin, setting the stage for Governor Mark Dayton to sign it into law and for the Minneapolis City Council to approve. Thursday’s outcome in the Senate marks one of the most historic days in the history of the Vikings…

Late on Wednesday night, the Vikings agreed to a revamped version of the stadium bill that came out of a Conference Committee which essentially merged both the Senate and House versions of the bill which passed earlier this week.  Of note, the team agreed to raise it’s contribution by $50 milllion. Then, in the wee hours of Thursday morning, the House passed the vote by a 71-60 margin.  The Senate is now up next and will discuss the bill beginning around Noon on Thursday, with a full vote expected later in the afternoon or evening.  Should it pass there, all that is left is for Gov.
  • Jerry Jones, Mike Jenkins And The Vikings CB Situation

    Mike Wobschall
    9 May 2012 | 11:15 pm
The Dallas Cowboys signed high-profile free agent Brandon Carr, one of the best CBs in this year’s free agent class, and then just weeks later they traded up in the 1st round to select Morris Claiborne, the best CB in this year’s draft. Those two major upgrades sparked speculation that Mike Jenkins, a 4-year veteran CB, might be on the outs in Big D. With the Vikings in the market for an upgrade at CB after finishing with the 26th-ranked pass defense a year ago, it was logical to wonder if Jenkins might be a good fit in Minnesota. According to a pretty reliable source in…

    16 May 2012 | 11:46 am
The Minnesota Vikings have just announced the dates for their 2012 Training Camp, and the team is going to be hanging around Mankato for a bit longer than they might have normally been accustomed to. According to various sources, largely coming via the Twitter, the team will report to Training Camp on July 26. They will then stay at camp all the way through August 16. That means camp will end just prior to the Vikings' second pre-season game rather than before the pre-season opener. The Vikings have not done that since 2008. Apparently the length of training camp last year was an issue with…

  • Tommy 'Two Minute' Kramer Elected To College Football Hall Of Fame

    Ted Glover
    15 May 2012 | 4:54 pm
Tommy Kramer, erstwhile hero and villain for thousands of Minnesotans in the late 1970's and early 1980's, was elected to the college football hall of fame earlier today. Kramer was a standout at Rice University, where he was a consensus All American on a losing team. He was the Vikes first round draft pick in 1977, and became a cult hero in his rookie season. It was December 4, 1977. A home game against the then lowly San Francisco 49ers. The Vikes went down 24-7, Bud Grant brought Kramer in the fourth quarter, and he engineered the greatest comeback in Vikes history to that point, throwing…
  • The Newest Vikings: Greg Childs

    Christopher Gates
    15 May 2012 | 2:16 pm
With the wide receiver position being such a sore spot for the Minnesota Vikings in 2011, they decided it was necessary to address it twice. Early in the fourth round, the Vikings grabbed Jarius Wright out of the University of Arkansas, and late in the fourth round they tabbed his Razorbacks teammate, Greg Childs. Of course, as we've read numerous times since the draft concluded, this won't be the first time that Childs and Wright will be teammates. They've been teammates going all the way back to the third grade, having played together at Warren High School as well as with the Razorbacks.

  • Vikings Release Training Camp Dates

    Randy Perrin
    16 May 2012 | 12:27 pm
The Vikings released their dates for this years training camp. Camp will be held in Mankato as it is every year and is slated to begin on July 26th. One noticeable change is the Vikings will be staying in Mankato for an extra week. Camp will conclude on August 16th, about a week after the first pre-season game. It’s been rumored that many thought that training camp was too short last year which could be the reason for the extra week this year. Coming off a 3-13 season and many new faces are set to start or contribute this year, an extra week can only benefit the players and coaches.

Defensive End, Nick Reed (6’1, 248 lbs.) who played college ball at Oregon and has been with the Seahawks, Bears and Bucs in his 2 years of the NFL. Reed got some playing time as a rookie with the Seahawks playing in 16 games while totaling 17 tackles, 1 sacks and 2 pass deflections. He also appeared in 10 games for the Bears and Bucs but made little impact during that time. Vikings also used a waiver claim on offensive lineman,…

According to Jeremy Fowler, Adams agent said the Vikings cut Adams now to give him a chance to find work elsewhere. The roster spot the Vikings gained in releasing Adams was given to UDFA OG Tyler Holmes (6’5, 308 lbs.) out of Tulsa.

Of particular concern in Minnesota is the Minnesota Vikings unwillingness to share any information on PSLs or Personal Seating Licenses with regards to the new stadium. I urge all season ticket holders to call the Vikings ticket office at 612.338.4537. I am willing to pay for a PSL without complaint but I am afraid I will be out-priced. During the legislative debate it was mentioned that $100,000,000.00 was the Vikings goal in PSL fundraising. How will that impact the current, loyal season ticket owners? The Vikings will not say! We helped get them the new stadium. The least that they can do…

(Photo from Creative Commons)Monday was an intense day for Vikings fans and today is no different. The bill passed by a significant majority in both the House (73-58) and in Senate (38-28), so it should be a guarantee that this stadium will be built soon. • Ponder, Vikings could increase passing workload in 2012

    Jeremy Fowler
    15 May 2012 | 2:57 pm
Will the Vikings ask Christian Ponder to air it out next year? When comparing Ponder’s workload to his draft class peers, the Vikings already did in 2011. In an unscientific breakdown of passing attempts among the top-four rookie quarterbacks from 2011 (not counting Jake Locker, who hasn’t started a game), Ponder is tied with Cam Newton for the most attempts per game. I say unscientific because the stats aren’t as simple as “games played” for Ponder and Blaine Gabbert, who didn’t play a full season. For example, Gabbert technically played in 15 games, but…
  • Vikings stay patient on rookie deals

    Jeremy Fowler
    15 May 2012 | 12:56 pm
Several teams are wasting little time executing rookie contracts in light of the new collective bargaining agreement, which slots deals based on draft position and makes negotiating somewhat formulaic. The money is pretty straightforward, and every player’s under a four-year deal with a fifth-year option for first-rounders. Six teams already have signed their entire draft class, with others following suit. Not the Vikings — at least not yet. They are staying patient with their 10 picks, and I keep hearing the team is waiting until next week to finalize plans. All 10 are in town,…
  • Will Jerome Simpson turn motivation into success with Vikings?

    Jeremy Fowler
    14 May 2012 | 8:02 pm
Vikings receiver Jerome Simpson has plenty of reasons to be motivated. Despite a breakout year in 2011, the former Bengals wideout’s felony drug charge cost him a three-game suspension and the chance at a multi-year deal during free agency. After more than a month on the market, the Vikings took a chance on Simpson, who is truly playing on a prove-it deal. His contract doesn’t include a signing bonus, which is standard for most contracts, because of the suspension. His one-year, $2-million deal is broken down into three parts — base salary ($800,000), roster bonus ($950,000)…
  • Hopeful starting safety Robert Blanton: You can count on me

    Jeremy Fowler
    14 May 2012 | 2:05 pm
Robert Blanton, hopeful starter in Vikings secondary? Starting today, the Vikings are integrating rookies and veterans for the first time in the offseason conditioning program. The draft picks still aren’t signed. Those deals should come down some time in the next 7-10 days. Meanwhile, one of the more intriguing position battles will be safety, where you’ve got to think first-round pick Harrison Smith is slotted as a starter. Fifth-round pick Robert Blanton is eyeing the other position, embracing the chance to shoulder up with his fellow rookie Fighting Irish mate. Mistral…
  • Adrian Peterson only knows how to go full speed

    Jeremy Fowler
    9 May 2012 | 3:47 pm
If Adrian Peterson’s knee isn’t ready for the rigors of an NFL football game by early September, the Vikings aren’t foolish enough to throw the All-Pro running back onto the field Week 1 against Jacksonville. He’s the franchise cornerstone. He’s either ready, or he’s not. Peterson still says he plans to be ready. He’ll be “very surprised” if he’s not on the field — as the primary running back, not in a limited role. “I want to be out there full throttle,” Peterson said. Peterson isn’t saying this because…

    Yardbarker: Minnesota Vikings

  • Vikings swap DE's: sign Reed, waive Cyrille

    16 May 2012 | 1:17 pm
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. The Minnesota Vikings swapped out a pair of defensive ends on its roster Wednesday, signing third-year player Nick Reed and waiving rookie Kevin Cyrille. Reed, a seventh-round draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2009 out of Oregon, has bounced around in his short NFL career, playing with a new team each season. Reed, who finished his career at Oregon as the school's all-time sack leader with 29.5 sacks, played all 16 games in his rookie season with Seattle. He had 17 tackles and one sack, but he couldn't stick with the Seahawks. He played seven games for the Chicago…

    16 May 2012 | 1:10 pm
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. The Minnesota Vikings will need to pack for a longer stay in the dorms at Minnesota State University in Mankato this season. Minnesota announced its 2012 training camp dates on Wednesday and the team will be in Mankato for three full weeks, its longest training camp since a three-week stay in 2008. The Vikings, who will hold their camp in Mankato for the 47th straight season, will have players report on July 26. The team will break camp on Aug. 16, a day before the second preseason game at home against the Buffalo Bills. In recent seasons, the Vikings would leave Mankato…

  • Vikings stretch training camp schedule to 3 weeks

    16 May 2012 | 12:32 pm
The Minnesota Vikings will have a longer training camp this year. The team announced Wednesday that players will report to Minnesota State University in Mankato on July 26 and break camp three weeks later on Aug. 16. This will be the 47th straight season the Vikings train at MSU. Specific practice dates and times have not yet been finalized, but this will be the longest training camp for the Vikings since a three-week stay in 2008. Counting the number of days from the first to the last open-to-the-public practices, the Vikings were in Mankato for 14 days or fewer in each of the last three…
  • Vikings CB Robinson shows off athleticism

    16 May 2012 | 9:17 am
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier was watching several players return punts early on the first day of the Vikings' rookie mini-camp on May 4. With over 70 players at the camp, Frazier didn't know each player just by sight. He was relying on a "cheat sheet" with names and numbers to recognize players. One particular player caught his eye and he had to go to the paper to see exactly who was displaying some unique speed. Looking for No. 31, Frazier was very pleased when he saw the name Josh Robinson, Minnesota's third-round draft pick. "Josh caught a punt and he took off…

  • Which Team Has The Best Shot At Worst-To-First?

    16 May 2012 | 12:31 pm
Carrington Harrison had a good question for me during out KC Chiefs talk on 610 Sports today: Which team that finished in last place in their division in 2011 has the best chance of finishing in first place in 2012? The old worst-to-first question... Your options are: Bills, Browns, Colts, Chiefs, Redskins, Vikings, Buccaneers and Rams. Despite my effort to avoid being a Chiefs homer, I picked KC. They were the only seven-game winner on the list and, even though they finished in last place in 2011, they were also a game out of first place, which no other team on this list can say. My rank of…
  • Minnesota Vikings Release 2012 Training Camp Dates

    16 May 2012 | 11:46 am
The Minnesota Vikings have just announced the dates for their 2012 Training Camp, and the team is going to be hanging around Mankato for a bit longer than they might have normally been accustomed to. According to various sources, largely coming via the Twitter, the team will report to Training Camp on July 26. They will then stay at camp all the way through August 16. That means camp will end just prior to the Vikings' second pre-season game rather than before the pre-season opener. The Vikings have not done that since 2008. Apparently the length of training camp last year was an issue with…

Thanks to all of you that make this the best damn Minnesota Vikings community on the internet, we've clicked past another milestone on the ol' odometer as, sometime late last night, we had our eight millionth visit to our corner of the interwebs here. • Tommy 'Two Minute' Kramer Elected To College Football Hall Of Fame

  • Would Donovan McNabb Be A Good Backup To Ravens' Flacco?

    15 May 2012 | 3:00 pm
While I seriously doubt this will happen, former Philadelphia Eagles,Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings QB Donovan McNabb remains on the free agent market. Reportedly, according to a story in the National Football Post, he is in the best shape he's been in years and willing to accept the fact that he must be a backup at this point in his career. Even his former coach, Andy Reid (Eagles), says teams should consider taking a chance on him, according to Pro Football Talk. Of course, the question begs asking, then why isn't Philly jumping on him to back up starter Michael Vick, right? But…
